Office hoteling is similar to hot desking in that there is no assigned space for each employee. However, there is a system in place to reserve workspaces for a while.

PROS of Hot Desking.

Hot desking has many interesting practical aspects. Maximizing space requirements means lower costs for companies, but manager’s point to more benefits. Hot-desking undoubtedly offers great flexibility for those working under a hybrid model, or for consultants, interns, and representatives.

Different types of workspaces such as ‘living rooms, coffee shops, and conference rooms also attract employees who want to change their work environment depending on the task at hand. Hot desks and office hotels are popular, but they are not the only options. Some people like to encourage sharing an office among colleagues during certain hours. For example, one employee occupies a room on Mondays and Wednesdays, and another employee occupies a room on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Also, during his live discussion, which I moderated, one of his attendees explained that his company had taken the opposite approach and provided employees with larger offices.

The aim was to attract people by providing a place where work was fun and where the social aspects of work among colleagues were encouraged. The idea is that some people tend to forgo remote work to enjoy a comfortable work environment and the variety of resources available to them to perform their duties.
